The government declared a state of natural disaster in six provinces, with the Western Cape province hit the hardest, local media reported.

Key consequences of the storm:

🟠Widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure, leaving thousands displaced and without power;

🟠Mass closures of schools and disruption of transport networks, including roads, mountain passes, and flight operations;

🟠Large-scale evacuations ordered due to flooding, overflowing rivers, and imminent dam failure risks.

A second, more powerful cold front is approaching South Africa from the west, meteorologists warned.
