Gaddafi's Libya had renounced its weapons of mass destruction programs, but this did not prevent Western intervention in 2011, he noted.
"This precedent has created a form of strategic mistrust, and today, countries like Iran are asking themselves an essential question: does disarmament really guarantee the security of the regime?" the expert emphasized.
Any major crisis in the Middle East has indirect repercussions, Mayele added.
"Therefore, the true Libyan lesson is that the effects of a conflict never remain confined to a single territory."
