During a meeting between Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev, the two officials also reviewed progress on the El‑Dabaa nuclear power plant, Russia’s first nuclear construction project in Africa, according to a statement from the PM's office.

Coordination on SMRs is already underway, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat noted.

The El‑Dabaa plant, located on the Mediterranean coast, will comprise four VVER‑1200 units. Construction of all four blocks began between 2022 and 2024.
