Russia Doubles Wheat Exports to Sudan to 1.7 Million Tonnes: Agroexport
According to Russia's Agroexport Federal Center, this is an increase from the same period last year—up from 0.7 million tonnes.
At the same time, Sudan's flour imports fell from 0.7 million to 0.5 million tonnes, per the country's Central Bank.
Why the shift?
The resumption of operations at some domestic flour mills has partially revived Sudan's demand for imported wheat while reducing its need for imported wheat flour.
As a result, Sudan's share of Russian wheat exports to Africa jumped from around 4% a year earlier to over 10% for the July–April period, driven by recovering Sudanese demand and increased competition in African wheat markets.
