Nigerian Crude Supply to Dangote Refinery Doubled in March Amid Iran War Disruptions: Owner

The Dangote Refinery received about 10 crude cargoes from Nigeria’s state-owned NNPC in March, according to Aliko Dangote. However, this remains below the 19 cargoes needed to run at full capacity, with the shortfall covered by imports from the US and other African producers.

While supply from NNPC has improved, international oil companies in Nigeria have not increased volumes, preferring to sell to traders—forcing the refinery to repurchase crude at higher costs, Dangote told reporters.

ℹAs a result of tensions in the Persian Gulf escalating, many African countries have come to rely on the refinery for fuel, with around 17 cargoes exported across the continent in March.

The refinery also produces polypropylene for plastics and auto parts, which Dangote said is in high demand but scarce due to ongoing disruptions in the Middle East.
