Russia and China vetoed a draft UN Security Council resolution on the Strait of Hormuz, a Sputnik correspondent reported.Key details: ▪️The resolution was submitted by Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. ▪️Proposed UN resolution would authorize member states to use "all defensive means necessary" in the Strait of Hormuz and adjacent waters to secure transit passage and deter interference with international navigation. ▪️It demanded Iran immediately cease all attacks on merchant and commercial vessels in the strait. ▪️The draft welcomed diplomatic efforts for a durable peace and encourages regional dialogue. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously warned the resolution is unlikely to advance a peaceful settlement, noting that past UN decisions with similar defensive clauses have been used to justify aggressive actions.
