World Tuberculosis Day: How Сan Russian Technologies Help Fight TB in Africa?

Despite the unstable global TB situation, Russia has seen a steady improvement in TB control for the past 15 years, with historic lows in incidence and mortality updated annually, Irina Vasilyeva, chief TB specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health, told Sputnik Africa.

The Russian side is open to expanding access to quality TB drugs, vaccines, and diagnostic tools, including clinical trials of Russian medical products in African countries, both bilaterally and via regional intergovernmental platforms.

"Russia is ready to share its practical experience in organizing TB control, using innovative screening tools and introducing new methods for diagnosing drug‑resistant TB," she added.

Russia maintains dialogue with all African countries and sees creating regional mechanisms as the next step after bilateral agreements are in place, the speaker noted.

Cooperation with African states in healthcare is a significant area of Russia’s foreign policy, she stressed.

"In 2025, 8,120 students from African countries were studying at medical universities under the Russian Health Ministry, and doctors from Africa regularly undertake training placements at Russian medical institutions," she emphasized.
