Benin Ruling Party Candidate Pledges Municipal Police in North to Fight Jihadists: Media
Romuald Wadagni outlined the plan while presenting his platform ahead of the 12 April election, where he is seen as the frontrunner, a Western news outlet reported.
This comes amid a sharp rise in attacks by Sahel-based insurgents along its borders with Niger and Nigeria, Wadagni added.
"The goal will be to ensure that young people, in their own environment, are trained, equipped, and given the opportunity to defend their homes, their families, their siblings, and their surroundings," he noted.
Benin’s northern regions are already patrolled by the national Republican Police and the army.
