Central African Republic Urges Russian Business to Invest in Its Economy, Trade Minister Says
YEKATERINBURG (Sputnik) - Russia's Minister of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov, met with the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Central African Republic, Thierry Patrick Akoloza on Tuesday at the 15th International Industrial Exhibition INNOPROM. The parties discussed issues of trade and economic cooperation.
The Central African Republic (CAR) has called on Russian business to invest in its economy, Thierry Patrick Akoloza said, highlighting opportunities across several sectors.
"Our country is rich in natural resources that remain largely untapped. We need private investment and legal frameworks that support it, particularly in mining, tourism, and wood processing. I appeal to our Russian partners to invest in my country – its market is open and offers promising opportunities for business," he said.
The Central African government adopted a national development plan in 2025, aiming to expand the industrial sector and establish special economic zones, the minister said.
Moreover, Russia and the CAR could collaborate more closely in the mining and automotive industries, as well as in agricultural machinery manufacturing, according to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade following the meeting.
Alikhanov noted that relations between the two countries are actively developing.
"The Minister emphasized the needs of the CAR's economy. According to him, the countries could work more closely together in agricultural machinery, the mining industry, and automotive manufacturing," the statement said.
In addition, there is significant potential for developing cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, the minister added.
"We are committed to further developing trade and economic ties between our countries. The statistics of our mutual trade demonstrate a positive trend," Alikhanov's statement noted.
Akoloza thanked the Russian government for the invitation to INNOPROM, which is slated to run from July 7-10, as well as for its continuous assistance in maintaining peace and security in the CAR.
