CAR Bets on Russian-Style Education to Stop Dependence on Foreign Experts, Minister Says
"We need to have elite schools and training courses. This is why we're working with Russia to establish educational structures like [in] Russia," Higher Education Minister Laurent Syssa-Magale told Sputnik Africa.
CAR needs to be able to say "what it wants" instead of relying on experts who "dictate behavior," the official noted on the sidelines of the International Forum of Ministers of Education in Kazan, Russia.
The Central African Republic needs to build educational "fundamentals" to overcome foreign influence, and Russia's education system is seen as well-suited to help achieve this goal, the minister pointed out.
"There is a return to calm, children are going to school, and even a return to normalcy at the university level," he said, adding that Russia is supporting the strengthening of the CAR's armed forces, which is also beneficial for education.
