On Wednesday, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the commander-in-chief of the Sudanese army and head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, announced that the Sudanese armed forces had freed Khartoum from the rebel units of the Rapid Support Forces.
On Sunday, the head of the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo admitted in a speech that his troops had withdrawn from Khartoum.
The RSF commander's admission followed a previous statement of "no retreat," despite the Sudanese army's declaration three days earlier that Khartoum was "free" of RSF after nearly two years of war.
In a speech posted to social media, Dagalo stated that the RSF would return with "even stronger determination."
