On Wednesday, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the commander-in-chief of the Sudanese army and head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, announced that the Sudanese armed forces had freed Khartoum from the rebel units of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
On Thursday, the Sudanese army shelled parts of Omdurman, Khartoum's twin city, according to Western media. Despite the army's ousting of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from Khartoum on Wednesday, the RSF maintains control in parts of Omdurman and has consolidated its presence in western Sudan, effectively dividing the country.
The RSF stated it had never lost a battle, but had "strategically repositioned" to secure military objectives. The conflict continues, with reports of RSF shelling army positions in al-Fashir, Darfur.
