Zimbabwe is facing persistent power shortages due to outdated infrastructure, last year's El Nino-induced drought, which severely impacted hydropower generation, and limited foreign currency to fund electricity imports.
The
Zimbabwean government on Tuesday called on private companies to generate their own electricity in a bid to ease the strain on the national grid.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare, Minister of Energy and Power Development July Moyo highlighted an increasing trend of businesses setting up their own

foreign direct investment. The minister also encouraged farmers to invest in renewable energy sources such as solar and biogas, citing their cost-effectiveness and potential to address energy challenges sustainably.
