Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has called on residents of Tigray state to participate in the selection of a candidate for the post of the new head of the transitional government (TG) of the state. Candidates can be proposed by sending an application via email.In a message delivered in the Tigrinya language, Abiy Ahmed announced that the current term of Tigray's TG has expired.The TG was originally given two years to achieve its objectives, including establishing conditions for regional elections, but tangible progress has been lacking.Consequently, the mandate of the TG will be extended by one year, requiring the selection of a new leader.The PM also emphasized that appointing the head of the TG remains the prerogative of the country's prime minister.Interestingly, the resignation of the current president, Getachew Reda, has not yet been officially announced.
