The announcement was made on Monday as Somalia formally acceded to Afreximbank's establishment agreement, which will provide access to crucial financial resources for infrastructure, trade facilitation, and economic development.
Somalia has officially joined the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) as its 53rd member, marking a major step in the country’s efforts to expand intra-African trade and accelerate economic recovery.
Somalia’s State Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister, Hirsi Jama Ganni, described the membership as a significant milestone in the country's commitment to regional and continental development through trade.
“This partnership is significant to Somalia's ongoing reconstruction and economic diversification efforts, opening doors for financial and technical support,” he said in a statement issued by Afreximbank.

Afreximbank to Collaborate With African Airlines on Aircraft Leasing & Financing: Statement
Afreximbank’s President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Benedict Oramah, welcomed Somalia into the organization, emphasizing the mutual benefits of the partnership.
“We are delighted to welcome Somalia into the Afreximbank family. This is a significant milestone as it widens the opportunity for the Somali public and private sectors to access financing and other related interventions that address their real needs,” Oramah stated.
Moreover, the bank has already initiated discussions with Somalia’s corporate and financial sectors, recognizing their vital role in implementing its developmental programs and supporting long-term economic stability in the country.
