In December 2023, Niger was suspended from the International Organization of La Francophonie, and Niamey announced the cessation of "all forms of cooperation with the organization," which, according to the government, "has always been used by France as an instrument to defend French interests and, above all, to promote its interests in Africa."
The Nigerien government took the decision to withdraw from the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) on March 7, the Foreign Ministry announced on Monday in a note to the country's diplomatic and consular missions abroad.

"We regret this decision, but we respect it," OIF spokeswoman Oria Vande Weghe told a French broadcaster, following the Nigerien government's notification.

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso has already made a similar decision, according to the spokeswoman.
