EU Wants to Create Artificial Enemy Out of Russia to Justify Its Militarization, Kremlin Says
10:09 18.03.2025 (Updated: 17:25 18.03.2025) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The European Union is trying to create an artificial external enemy out of Russia to justify the bloc's militarization, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
"These are simply attempts to create an artificial external enemy in order to justify such a militaristic line to militarize Europe," Peskov told the RT broadcaster, adding that the "Russian threat" to Europe is absolutely ephemeral in nature.
West Forced to Conceal Spread of Nazi Ideology in Ukraine, Russia's SVR Says
Meanwhile, the authorities of leading Western countries are being forced to take tough measures to hide the spread of Nazi ideology in
Ukraine from their citizens, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said on Monday.
"The press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation reports that, according to information received by the SVR, the authorities of leading Western countries are forced to take tough administrative measures to conceal from their own citizens the widespread dissemination of Nazi ideology in Ukraine," the SVR said in a statement.
The German government has been particularly wary about not letting Ukrainian troops be seen using symbols and gestures associated with Nazi Germany.
"In particular, German media were instructed by the federal government to prevent the evidence of servicepeople of the Ukrainian armed forces using gestures and symbols associated with fascist Germany from appearing in photo or video materials," SVR said.
Journalists recording Ukrainians who display
Nazi flags, symbols, and gestures are instructed to "politely" ask them to remove "propaganda elements and refrain from undesirable actions" during filming, the statement said.
The Western media have been following these guidelines blindly despite boasting about their commitment to freedom and independence, SVR said.
"The mere fact that Nazi ideas are popular in Ukraine is well-known. The German government's stance proves convincingly that the authorities of modern Germany see nothing wrong about Ukrainians being committed to the symbols of the Third Reich," the statement read.
The Third Committee of the United Nations' General Assembly voted 116-54, with 11 abstentions, in November to pass a Russia-drafted resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism. Ukraine and Germany voted against.
