The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is set to send a delegation to Angola on Tuesday for peace talks aimed at resolving the escalating conflict with Rwandan-backed M23 rebels in the east, media reported, citing the presidency. The talks mark a potential turning point as President Felix Tshisekedi considers direct dialogue with M23—a shift from his previous stance against negotiations. On Sunday, M23 spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka announced via X that the group had received an invitation from Angola. He later confirmed on Monday that M23 would be sending a delegation of five people to participate in the talks.Angola, under President Joao Lourenco, has urged an immediate ceasefire to create a conducive environment for dialogue, emphasizing the need to halt attacks on civilians and territorial advances. Despite these efforts, clashes continued over the weekend in the Walikale region.

Angola’s mediation efforts aim to de-escalate tensions not only between the DRC and M23 but also between the DRC and neighboring Rwanda, which Kigali denies backing despite accusations of supporting the Tutsi-led rebel group.
