Although no charges have been filed, the questioning comes as President Felix Tshisekedi accuses Kabila of backing M23 rebels, who have seized key cities like Goma and Bukavu since January.
Officials from former President Joseph Kabila’s party appeared before a military prosecutor in the DR Congo on Monday, amid the
M23 rebellion in the east, media reported.
While the exact reason for the summons was unclear, it followed remarks by Aubin Minaku, the party’s vice president, urging members to be “ready for anything,” media reported.
The DRC authorities have also
implemented a measure prohibiting Aubin Minaku Ndjalandjoko, Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary, and Ferdinand Kambere—all high-ranking officials during Kabila's presidency—from leaving the country. Moreover, if any of these individuals are located within the national borders, they are to be apprehended immediately.
Meanwhile, Kabila has been reaching out to
opposition figures to discuss the country’s political future. Party officials also denied links to armed groups, emphasizing their commitment to national stability, according to reports.
