Nicaragua has decided to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) and is completely ceasing all activities related to the HRC and its subsidiary mechanisms, Nicaraguan co-President Rosario Murillo said.Murillo, addressing UN Human Rights Council President Jurg Lauber, focused on recent HRC documents - the report of the Group of Human Rights Experts on Nicaragua, the annual report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the report of the Office of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council. In creating these documents, the HRC violated its own principles of objectivity, impartiality, and non-selectivity in considering human rights issues, she added.

Nicaragua to Withdraw From UN Human Rights Council, Co-President Says
08:36 28.02.2025 (Updated: 16:00 28.02.2025) MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) - Nicaragua's withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council comes after the body on Monday presented a report by the Group of Experts on Human Rights in Nicaragua on human rights violations, abuses, and crimes committed in the country since April 2018 and documented by the group of experts.
Nicaragua has decided to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) and is completely ceasing all activities related to the HRC and its subsidiary mechanisms, Nicaraguan co-President Rosario Murillo said.
"For Nicaragua, these disrespectful structures have lost their nature and essence. We do not recognize them and do not consider ourselves participants or accomplices in attacks on the sovereignty, equality of states or the dignity of peoples. For this reason, Nicaragua hereby expresses its sovereign and irrevocable decision to withdraw from the Human Rights Council and from all activities related to this Council and all its subsidiary mechanisms," Murillo said on Thursday.
Murillo, addressing UN Human Rights Council President Jurg Lauber, focused on recent HRC documents -
the report of the Group of Human Rights Experts on Nicaragua, the annual report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the report of the Office of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council. In creating these documents, the
HRC violated its own principles of objectivity, impartiality, and non-selectivity in considering human rights issues, she added.
