WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - On Saturday, US President Trump stated that Washington is "pretty close" to finalizing a rare earth minerals agreement with Kiev, although Kiev reportedly isn't ready for such a deal. The US Treasury Secretary noted that Zelensky personally proposed an economic partnership to Trump.
The United States and Ukraine are expected to sign a rare earth minerals agreement next week, US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff said on Sunday.

"I expect to see a deal signed this week. You saw [...] Zelensky waver in his commitment towards that a week ago; the president sent a message that he is not wavering anymore. I think there is a reason he is not wavering. It is because he realizes that we have done so much, and that agreement belongs to being signed, and I think you will see it signed this week," Witkoff said in an interview with CNN.
