Relations between Russia and Ethiopia are at a very high level; the country is one of the key partners of the Russian Federation in Africa, the chair of Russia's Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, said.This year marks 127 years of diplomatic ties, she noted, emphasizing a history built on respect, trust, and equal partnership.Matvienko highlighted Ethiopia's unique position as the only African country never colonized, noting its historic defense of independence and the support it received from Russian Cossacks against Italian invaders in the 19th century.The senator stated that Russia and Ethiopia share a history of fighting colonialism and now jointly advocate for a fair, multipolar world that opposes neocolonialism and prioritizes equality, respect, and national sovereignty.
