In a recent interview with Ethiopian media, Valentina Matvienko, the speaker of the Federation Council, Russia's upper house of parliament, expressed confidence in the effectiveness of her upcoming visit to the East African country, stressing that a highly representative delegation from Moscow would arrive in Addis Ababa with this expectation.
A delegation of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, the upper house of the Russian parliament, led by Chairwoman Valentina Matvienko and including senators and representatives of 14 ministries and agencies, has left for Ethiopia, according to the Federation Council's press service.

"A very representative delegation has departed for Addis Ababa with the expectation of productive negotiations on various aspects of bilateral relations," the press service quoted Matvienko as saying on Tuesday.

The agenda includes meetings between the Federation Council Chairwoman and Ethiopia's top leadership, as well as with the speakers of both houses of the Ethiopian parliament.

Ethiopia Ready to Step Up Security Cooperation With Russia, Prime Minister States
In an interview with The Ethiopian Herald newspaper prior to the visit, Matvienko stated that the main goal is to stimulate the development of traditionally mutually beneficial and productive bilateral cooperation across various areas.
Expressing confidence in the effectiveness of the visit, Matvienko said that the key to the success of the upcoming negotiations is the consistent support that Russia has provided to Ethiopia for many decades.
"Both capitals anticipate that this historic visit will serve as the foundation for the establishment of numerous forthcoming promising projects that will be mutually beneficial to the people of both nations," a staff editor of the Ethiopian newspaper noted.
