Nigerian President Bola Tinubu called on the African Union (AU) to establish a joint maritime task force to bolster security in the Gulf of Guinea, offering Lagos as its headquarters. The announcement, made at the 38th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, is in line with Nigeria's commitment to provide strategic sea lift services for AU operations, including peace support, disaster response, and humanitarian missions.Tinubu also welcomed the upgrading of Nigeria's counter-terrorism center to a regional one and the renewal of the Multinational Joint Task Force mandate in the Lake Chad region.Regarding Libya, he stressed that its instability exacerbates Sahel security challenges and advocated for restoring order. He also highlighted insecurity in transitioning nations like Sudan and proposed exploring the extension of UN Security Council Resolution 2719 for AU Peace Support Operations.
