Africa Strongly Needs Views Alternative to West, Russian Ambassador to Mauritius Says
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Russian ambassador to Mauritius, Irada Zeynalova, said she recently received a request from the East African country's state television asking for relevant specialists to be sent to the island to teach them how to better conduct live broadcasts.
Cooperation between Russia and Africa in the media field should develop rapidly, as there is a strong need for an
alternative to the Western point of view in many African countries, Russian Ambassador to Mauritius Irada Zeynalova told Sputnik.
"Traditionally, the formats for delivering information have been established here by the former colonial powers of those countries from which the countries have broken free, but the media presence has remained," Zeynalova said, adding that the need for an alternative to the Western point of view is incredible in African countries.
Russia and Africa have potential for media cooperation, which should develop rapidly, the ambassador also noted.
"Cooperation between Russia and Africa in the sphere of media should develop by leaps and bounds, because there are all the possibilities for it," Zeynalova pointed out.
The presence of the US is widely felt on the continent due to large investments in African aid programs, the ambassador added.
Meanwhile, trade turnover between Russia and Mauritius, which is now at a minimum level, will be increased soon, the Russian diplomat noted.
"We will increase turnover in the near future. There are a lot of proposals. Yesterday, the minister of financial services came up to me and said: 'Look, even before I became minister, I was sure that we have a huge, untapped potential for relations with Russia. Let's work on that.' I said, 'Oh my God, of course!' We arranged a meeting," she said.
Moreover, Russia is ready to
help Mauritius develop its digital public services sector, Zeynalova stated.
Furthermore, the Russian embassy is planning to open a Russian school in Mauritius, as compatriots are asking for it, the ambassador added.
"I am asked all the time if it is impossible to open a Russian school in Mauritius. They tell me that they need to be taught Russian, the staff in the hotels would like to speak Russian. We are trying to organize a school here," Zeynalova said.
The ambassador also emphasized that Russia, unlike other countries, trains people and brings them back home to work on the development of their country.
