According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Ebola is a "severe, often fatal illness" that affects humans and other primates, with an average fatality rate around 50%. The 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak in West Africa was the biggest since the virus was discovered in 1976. Some African countries are still facing eruptions of the deadly disease.
Russia's human welfare watchdog Rospotrebnadzor is ready to provide assistance to Uganda, where a case of Ebola has been confirmed; proposals for assistance have already been sent, the agency’s press service reported.
"Rospotrebnadzor is in contact with Ugandan colleagues, and proposals have been sent to provide assistance in conducting an epidemiological investigation and anti-epidemic measures," the statement said.
On Thursday, Uganda's Permanent Secretary of the Uganda Ministry of Health, Diana Atwine, said a case of Ebola had been confirmed in the capital, Kampala.
Earlier in 2024, in order to increase Uganda's laboratory capacity, Rospotrebnadzor delivered a mobile laboratory to Kampala, which allows for the fastest possible laboratory diagnostics of dangerous infectious diseases, according to the press service.
