WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – On Tuesday, the US embassy in Kinshasa recommended that American citizens depart from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This advice came after demonstrators, angered by the conflict in Goma, attacked several diplomatic missions. The embassy also shut down its operations.
The United States has ordered non-emergency US government personnel and family members to depart the Democratic Republic of the Congo amid a rebel advance.

"The Department of State updated the Travel Advisory for the Democratic Republic of the Congo on January 28, 2025, to reflect the Ordered Departure of non-emergency US government employees and all eligible family members," the statement said.

The US authorities advise American citizens not to travel to the DRC "due to Armed Conflict, Crime, Civil Unrest, Kidnapping, and Terrorism," the alert said.
