The attacks come amid a worsening security and humanitarian crisis in the region, where over 400,000 people have been displaced since the start of 2025 due to intensified fighting between the Congolese army and armed groups.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who also serves as the chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), has strongly condemned armed groups in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for recent attacks on UN and SADC peacekeeping missions.
On Monday, Mnangagwa expressed deep concern over the violence that resulted in at least 13 peacekeeper deaths and injuries, extending his condolences to the bereaved families.
