The attacks come amid a worsening security and humanitarian crisis in the region, where over 400,000 people have been displaced since the start of 2025 due to intensified fighting between the Congolese army and armed groups.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who also serves as the chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), has strongly condemned armed groups in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for recent attacks on
UN and SADC peacekeeping missions.
On Monday, Mnangagwa expressed deep concern over the violence that resulted in at least 13 peacekeeper deaths and injuries, extending his condolences to the bereaved families.
In November 2024,
SADC extended the mandate of its peacekeeping mission in the DRC by one year to address the ongoing hostilities. Mnangagwa emphasized that SADC will take decisive action to stabilize the region and hold those responsible for the violence accountable.
