Egypt Rejects Any Attempts to Resettle Palestinians, Foreign Ministry Says
09:43 27.01.2025 (Updated: 17:11 27.01.2025) CAIRO (Sputnik) - Displaced Palestinians started returning to Northern Gaza on Monday following an agreement between Hamas and Israel, providing the release of three Israeli hostages by Friday and another three on Saturday.
Egypt does not accept any attempts to resettle
Palestinians on either a temporary or long-term basis, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
"[Egypt] emphasizes the unacceptability of any infringement on the rights [of Palestinians], whether through settlements, occupation or the expulsion of Palestinians from their lands on a temporary or long-term basis," the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced the possibility of resettling refugees from the
Gaza Strip in a number of Arab countries, both on a temporary and long-term basis.
"I'd like Egypt to take people. And I'd like Jordan to take people," Trump told reporters.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also said that he plans to develop a resettlement plan for residents of the Gaza Strip.
