Displaced Palestinians Start Returning to Northern Gaza on Monday, Interior Ministry Says
09:23 27.01.2025 (Updated: 15:56 27.01.2025) DOHA (Sputnik) - Israeli authorities would allow displaced Palestinians to begin returning from the south of the Gaza Strip to neighborhoods north of the enclave from Monday morning in return for an agreement to release three Israeli hostages by Friday and another three on Saturday, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said on Sunday.
Displaced Palestinians started
returning to Northern Gaza on Monday following an agreement between Hamas and Israel, an official in the Hamas-run Interior Ministry told a French media outlet.
"The passage of displaced Palestinians has begun along the Al-Rashid Road via the western part of the Netzarim checkpoint towards Gaza City and the northern part" of the Gaza Strip, the official was quoted as saying.
Israel received from the Palestinian movement Hamas a list of living and dead hostages who must be returned from the Gaza Strip as part of the first stage of the ceasefire deal, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said earlier.
"Israel has received from Hamas a list that includes the status of all the hostages due to be released in the first stage," the office said on X.
The office also confirmed that Israel would allow Gazans to cross into the northern strip from Monday morning in exchange for the release of three Israeli hostages by Friday and three more on Saturday.
"In return, the Israeli authorities will allow, starting tomorrow morning, Monday, the return of displaced citizens in the Gaza Strip from the south to the northern areas of the Strip, and will also hand over a list of the names of 400 people who have been arrested since October 7, 2023, every Sunday in the first phase," Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said on X on Sunday.
The first stage of the
Israel-Hamas ceasefire is expected to free 33 Israeli hostages, seven of whom have already returned alive.
