Sudan's RSF Chief Confirms Surrender of Al-Jazira Province's Capital to Government Forces
BEIRUT (Sputnik) - On Saturday, the leadership of the Sudanese government forces announced a successful advance toward the Wad Madani city, and, later in the day, government spokesman Khalid Al-Aiser announced the liberation of the city.
The head of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, confirmed the surrender of
the city of Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazira province, to government troops.
"We lost the battle, but not the war [...] we lost Wad Madani, but with God's help we will take it back. It is necessary to organize the ranks and conduct an audit" Dagalo said in an audio message published on social media.
The RSF chief noted that the balance of power
had changed, and in addition to aviation, combat drones were being intensively used against the RSF fighters, which leads to significant losses among personnel.
Since April 15, 2023, heavy fighting has been going on in Sudan between the RSF and the regular army. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stated that ongoing fighting in the country
could lead to disease outbreaks and a fatal collapse of the healthcare system.
Sudanese Ambassador to Russia Mohammed Sirraj expressed hope in an interview with Sputnik in early January that the armed conflict in his country would end in 2025.
