Sudanese Ambassador Expects Exchange of High-Level Visits Between Sudan, Russia in 2025
11:58 04.01.2025 (Updated: 11:59 04.01.2025) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In November 2024, Russia voted against the draft UNSC resolution on the protection of civilians in Sudan and the implementation of Sudanese agreements, saying it effectively ignored the existence of a legitimate Sudanese government and created a basis for interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign country.
Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow Mohammed Sirraj told Sputnik that he expected an exchange of high-level visits between Russia and the African country in 2025, adding that relations between the two nations are
actively developing in all spheres.
"Political consultations and active interaction are important for bilateral relations between the two countries. Our relations are actively developing in all aspects, and I expect an exchange of high-level visits in 2025," the ambassador said.
Sirraj also thanked Russia
for vetoing the draft UN Security Council resolution on the protection of civilians in Sudan and the implementation of inter-Sudanese agreements, saying that this action indicates a high level of relations, and Khartoum is looking forward to developing these ties and strengthening them.
Meanwhile, the diplomat noted that Russia's foreign policy principles in cooperation with Africa are gaining popularity across the continent.
"Many African countries are going through a transition period, which leads to issues emerging from the age of neocolonialism and the full use of their resources and political capital. Russia is helping them, and its foreign policy guidelines – equal sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and the exchange of benefits on equal terms – are beginning to interest more and more people on the continent," Sirraj added.
