On November 18, Russia vetoed the UK's resolution on Sudan due to alleged London's attempt to intervene in the country's affairs.
Russia calls for a ceasefire, non-interference and internal dialogue to resolve the Sudanese conflict, Russia's envoy to the UN, Vassily Nebenzya, said during a security council meeting on Sudan on Thursday.
"A ceasefire in Sudan remains the key priority at this stage. Without it, steps to protect civilians, ensure full access to food and protect women and children from violence will not be effective," he stated.
Russia condemns external interference in Sudan's internal affairs, urging a halt to foreign support for the conflict and dubious political schemes, as they only aggravate the situation of ordinary Sudanese, the diplomat pointed out.
"We consistently support the early launch of an intra-Sudanese dialogue involving political forces with broad social support and pursuing a unifying agenda in the country," Nebenzya noted.
The Sudanese people are able and must solve their internal problems themselves; the leadership of the country is well aware that stabilization is directly linked to a peaceful transition, he emphasized.

"We would like to appeal to certain members of the council to have the good judgment to recognize that there is no other way but to engage with the central government," the Russian envoy added, warning that any alternative will only prolong suffering.
