Alarming figures from the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES), a watchdog on migration and asylum issues, indicate that the number of dead and missing on Tunisian shores has reached "between 600 and 700" in 2024, compared to more than 1,300 in 2023.
At least 27 migrants have been found dead off the coast of Tunisia near the Kerkennah Islands, according to media reports.
Tunisian authorities rescued 83 other migrants, originating from various sub-Saharan African countries, following a maritime incident. Five of the rescued individuals were transported to Slim Hadhri hospital for treatment.

According to Zied Sdiri, regional director of the Sfax Civil Protection Department, a total of 110 migrants had embarked on two boats attempting to reach the Italian coast.
