Congo expects to receive a Russian mobile laboratory in early 2025, an official of the Congolese Public Health Emergency Operations Center noted.
Partnership with Russia helps to support the whole health system in Congo, official of the Congolese Public Health Emergency Operations Center Mayenga Binganzela Christian Steja told Sputnik Africa.
The 5th International Conference on Combating Infectious Diseases, held in Saint Petersburg on December 12-13, will help raise awareness among the public and decision-makers about the health challenges facing Africa and Congo, Steja noted.
"It was attended by representatives from more than fifty countries. The exchange of experiences between countries gave us the language we needed to convey our position to the Congolese authorities and raise awareness of health issues," he said.
The official praised
medical cooperation with Russia, while according to him, Congo wants to develop new laboratories, including mobile ones, to strengthen the fight against infectious diseases.
"Several teams of Russian specialists came for training and were able to bring to Congo the necessary materials for laboratory analysis and diagnostics. We also welcome Russia's initiative to help Congo with medicines," Steja explained.
In September, Russia
supplied Congo with diagnostic tests for mpox and organized training courses for Congolese specialists as part of its support to African countries in the fight against the disease, the Russian consumer rights and human welfare watchdog reported.
