The NDLEA, established in 1989, is a federal agency responsible for combating drug-related activities. They target the production, trafficking, and sale of hard drugs, operating at airports, seaports, and borders. The NDLEA also focuses on dismantling drug and money laundering networks.
Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced a series of successful drug interdiction operations in a statement released Sunday.
The NDLEA made a major bust at Kano Airport, seizing 6kg of cocaine concealed within a smuggler – the largest seizure there since 2006, according to the agency's statement.
At Lagos Airport, an ex-convict was arrested for trying to
smuggle Rohypnol to South Africa, having a previous fine for a similar offense. Also at Lagos, an Italy-based businesswoman was arrested for attempting to smuggle 6 kg of tramadol. Separately, a raid in Onitsha uncovered over 400,000 opioid pills and 8,000 bottles of codeine.
Additionally, operations in Maiduguri led to seizures of drugs and ammunition. Raids in Oyo, Enugu, and a port operation in Lagos resulted in further seizures, notably 180,000 bottles of codeine from
India. The NDLEA also intensified its drug abuse awareness campaign across multiple states.
