At least 38 people were killed in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, following a missile attack by Sudan's rebel paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to media reports citing civil activists. The attack, which took place on Sunday, followed a drone strike on a Saudi-run hospital in the city - the only functioning hospital - on Friday that reportedly killed nine people. The escalating violence comes amid the ongoing 20-month conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, a conflict that has created a major humanitarian crisis affecting over 12 million displaced people in Sudan, particularly in the Darfur region, according to the UN.El-Fasher, as well as the wider North Darfur region, is a key battleground in western Sudan, and an RSF victory there is feared to unleash further ethnic violence similar to events in West Darfur state last year, where the RSF was accused of ethnic cleansing, according to media reports.

The Sudanese army and the RSF have been locked in conflict for 20 months, creating a profound humanitarian crisis that has reportedly driven more than 12 million people from their homes and killed tens of thousands.
At least 38 people were killed in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, following a missile attack by Sudan's
rebel paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to media reports citing civil activists.
The attack, which took place on Sunday, followed a drone strike on a Saudi-run hospital in the city - the only functioning hospital - on Friday that reportedly killed nine people.
The escalating violence comes amid the ongoing 20-month conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, a conflict that has created a major
humanitarian crisis affecting over 12 million displaced people in Sudan, particularly in the Darfur region, according to the UN.
El-Fasher, as well as the wider North Darfur region, is a key battleground in western Sudan, and an
RSF victory there is feared to unleash further ethnic violence similar to events in West Darfur state last year, where the RSF was accused of ethnic cleansing, according to media reports.
