The Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC) is calling on the interim government of Syria to initiate an inclusive national conference, the commission's head Bader Jamous said on Tuesday. Jamous also stressed the importance of holding a constitutional referendum to ensure free and open elections in a secure environment under UN supervision. Jamous said that the political opposition abroad is ready to cooperate with the new authorities in Damascus to jointly create a new future for Syria. He also called on the international community to lift sanctions on Syria. Syria's armed opposition captured Damascus on December 8. Russian officials said that Bashar Assad stepped down as president after negotiations with participants in the Syrian conflict and left Syria for Russia, where he was granted asylum. Mohammed al-Bashir, who ran an Idlib-based administration formed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other opposition groups, was named interim prime minister. He later announced that an interim government had been formed and would remain in place until March 2025.

Syrian Opposition Calls for Inclusive Political Conference After Power Change
BEIRUT (Sputnik) - The Syrian Negotiation Commission, initially named High Negotiation Commission, was created in 2015 at a Saudi-hosted conference of various Syrian opposition forces with the goal to conduct negotiations with the former leadership of Syria at various foreign venues.
The Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC) is calling on
the interim government of Syria to initiate an inclusive national conference, the commission's head Bader Jamous said on Tuesday.
"We need a national conference organized by the interim government with the task to prepare a new constitution that will meet the hopes of the Syrians," Jamous said in the UN Security Council, as quoted in an SNC post on X.
Jamous also stressed the importance of holding a constitutional referendum to ensure free and open elections in a secure environment under UN supervision.
"We call for an inclusive national transitional government that would represent all sectors of Syrian society, including revolutionaries, politicians and civil society, with guarantees for the participation of women and youth," he said.
Jamous said that the political opposition abroad is ready to cooperate with the new authorities in Damascus to jointly create a new future for Syria. He also called on the international community to lift sanctions on Syria.
Syria's armed opposition captured Damascus on December 8. Russian officials said that Bashar Assad stepped down as president after negotiations with participants in the Syrian conflict and
left Syria for Russia, where he was granted asylum.
Mohammed al-Bashir, who ran an Idlib-based administration formed by
Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other opposition groups, was named interim prime minister. He later announced that an interim government had been formed and would remain in place until March 2025.
