The Confederation of Sahel States held a ministerial meeting in Niamey on December 13th. Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, Mali's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, chaired the meeting, which included representatives from other member states.The ministers approved the results of a previous meeting in Bamako on November 22. This meeting addressed security issues and the standardization of identity documents and passports within the confederation. The final communiqué indicated that implementation would soon follow.The ministers also reaffirmed the member states' irrevocable decision to withdraw from ECOWAS. They urged multidisciplinary committees to continue discussions on the practical aspects of this withdrawal, prioritizing the needs of the population.Togo's inclusion in the inter-state customs system integration project, approved by the Niamey customs administration in July 2024, was also confirmed.The Confederation of Sahel States reaffirmed its commitment to building a better future for its citizens through solidarity and coordination. This includes focusing on economic integration, improved security, and governance that serves the people.

On July 6, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger signed a charter establishing the Confederation of Sahel States during the inaugural summit of the heads of state and governments of the AES in Niamey. They also agreed on establishing an investment bank and a stabilization fund for the confederation. Mali took over the presidency of the union for one year.
