Standardized AES documents "could simplify customs formalities and reduce border control formalities, promoting increased mobility of citizens and goods. This would also strengthen intra-confederal trade," Iba Karim, a former Burkinabe lawmaker, told Sputnik Africa earlier.
A Sputnik Africa correspondent talked to residents of Niamey about the initiative to establish a biometric AES passport.

"In the sense that when we create a common document for the three countries of the AES, it's an identity. It's really an identity. We know where we come from; we know who we are, especially for the free movement of people within this federation," one of the locals said.
