Russia-Africa cooperation in the field of food security involves not only the provision of foreign aid, but also logistics, processing technology, training in agrotechnology and the financial sector, as all these elements are interlinked, the head of the Russian humanitarian agency stated.
Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, the Russian federal government agency administering civilian foreign aid and cultural exchange, Yevgeny Primakov called for more Russian-African cooperation in education, agriculture and food security.

"More than 4,800 people come from Africa every year [to study] on scholarships from the Russian government alone," Yevgeny Primakov said at the congress "Innovative Practice: Science plus Business" held in Moscow.

While a significant number of medical students are educated in Russia, which is very important, the number of students specializing in food security and agriculture remains low, Primakov noted.
"We [Russia] certainly have room to grow, because of course the work on food security is not limited to the direct delivery of food," he emphasized.
Africa is now demanding Russia's assistance in the technological sphere to address food security challenges, and Rossotrudnichestvo has the competence and authority to deal with it, the agency's chief added.
The speaker also stressed the importance of future projects being based in Africa and facilitating practical cooperation between Russian and African companies in the agricultural sector, with the aim of fostering pragmatic partnerships that directly address Africa's food security challenges.

"All previous projects that have been done, they were either in Sochi or in Moscow, on our territory [in Russia]; the legacy of the Russia-Africa Forum should be transferred to African soil. It is impossible to solve Africa's problems outside Africa," he pointed out, adding that the agency is preparing a conference on food security to be held in April 2025 in Ethiopia.
