ALEPPO (Sputnik) - The armed conflict in Syria started in 2011 between the government of Bashar Assad and various armed groups, including terrorists. Daesh*, also known as ISIS, was declared defeated in late 2017, and Damascus has since continued raids to wipe out remaining cells, chiefly in the country's northwest.
The Ukrainian instructors have trained Syrian terrorists to use their tactics, a private military company representative studying drones in Syria told Sputnik.
"I can say with absolute certainty that the militants are being trained by foreign specialists and instructors. I was in the zone of the special military operation [in Ukraine] and saw how UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles] work there. Now that I am here, I see that the militants are using the same tactics as the Ukrainians. I can conclude that the Ukrainian special services are present in the Idlib de-escalation zone," the representative said.
The militants have started using kamikaze drones at night, which means that the UAVs are already equipped with night vision or thermal imaging cameras, the employee also said, adding that such tactics are typical for Ukrainian forces in the special military operation zone.
"The most interesting thing is that each [drone] sample has writings in English, which is not typical for militants of Arab origin," the specialist added.
