Important Results Were Achieved During Russia's Presidency in BRICS, Russian Deputy FM Says

Russia's 2024 presidency of BRICS began on January 1 with the joining of new members. Adding to Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE, and Saudi Arabia; the latter has not formalized membership but participates in BRICS meetings.
Important results were achieved during Russia’s presidency in BRICS, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said during a meeting of Sherpas and Sous-sherpas to BRICS.
Ryabkov underscored that BRICS held over 250 events this year. He noted that progress has been achieved in various areas of BRICS member states cooperation, including politics and security, economics and finance, humanitarian contacts.
Ryabkov added that BRICS’s achievements this year are:
creation of the category of BRICS partner country;
agreement on the establishment of the BRICS Grain Exchange;
agreement on the establishment of a contact group on climate change and sustainable development;
agreement on the creation of independent and stable payment mechanisms aimed at the use of national currencies.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Lists Criteria for BRICS Partner States
The 16th BRICS Summit took place in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24. This summit was particularly significant as it marked the first time Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE participated as members, following their accession in January. More than 32 countries, including the full members, took part in the summit.
