The American Aegis missile defense base was officially opened on November 13 in Redzikowo, Poland, in the north of the country, 165 kilometers from the border with Russia.
The missile defense base in Poland has long been a priority target for Russian troops, and the opening of the US base will increase strategic and nuclear risks, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova during a briefing.
"This is yet another openly provocative step in a series of deeply destabilizing actions by the Americans and their allies in the North Atlantic Alliance in the strategic sphere... this leads to the undermining of strategic stability... this naturally leads to an increase in strategic risks and, as a consequence, to an increase in the overall level of nuclear danger," Maria Zakharova stated.
She noted that the facility has "obvious potential" to weaken Russia's deterrent forces.
"Given the nature and level of threats arising from such Western military facilities, the missile defense base in Poland has long been added to the list of priority targets for potential destruction, which, if necessary, can be provided with a wide range of the latest weapons," Zakharova concluded.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the US missile defense base in Redzikowo was aimed against Russia. According to Duda, the missile defense base in Redzikowo was originally intended to counter a potential Iranian missile attack.
