Russia's Goals to Be Achieved Regardless of US Nod for Kiev's Strikes at Russia, UN Envoy Says
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) - On Sunday, US President Joe Biden reportedly authorized Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with American missiles ATACMS. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that allowing Kiev to use its Western long-range missiles on Russia would mean NATO's direct participation in a war against the Russian Federation.
The goals of Russia's special military operation will be achieved by diplomatic or military means, regardless of US permission for Kiev to strike deep into Russia, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzya said during a meeting of the UN Security Council.
"Its [special operation's] goals will be achieved in any case, by diplomatic or military means, regardless of any peaceful plans and schemes developed in the West in the interests of saving entertainer Zelensky and his clique. And regardless of the militaristic frenzy of the Democratic [US] administration, which is issuing, according to media reports, suicidal permits to the Zelensky regime to use long-range weapons for strikes deep into Russian territory," the Russian diplomat said.
Joe Biden, who is leaving his post, may have nothing to lose, but London and Paris are dragging Europe into an escalation with serious
consequences, he added.
"Perhaps Joe Biden himself, for many reasons, has nothing to lose, but the short-sightedness of the UK and French leadership, who are rushing to play along with the outgoing administration and dragging not only their countries, but all of Europe into a full-scale escalation with extremely serious consequences, is astounding," Nebenzya said.
In the meantime, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said during the meeting that
Washington will announce additional security assistance for Ukraine in the coming days.
“We will announce additional security assistance for Ukraine in the days to come,” Thomas-Greenfield said.
The
assistance to Ukraine will include artillery, air defense, armed vehicles, and other needed capabilities and munitions, she added.
