Rospotrebnadzor experts began training 30 Malagasy health specialists from various regions on plague microbiology, diagnostics, and epidemiology in Antananarivo on Monday, marking the first such event in Madagascar.
Recognizing the urgent threat of plague in Madagascar, Russian medical specialists conduct a training, focused on addressing the most pressing issues related to plague surveillance, prevention, and outbreak management, Alexandra Ivanova, Head of the Laboratory of Epidemiological Analysis and Forecasting, told Sputnik Africa.
"We told our colleagues about the laboratory diagnostic methods used in [Russia] and demonstrated the capabilities of modern technologies that we are now very actively implementing in epidemiological surveillance in our country," the specialist of the Russian Anti-Plague Research Institute "Microbe" of Rospotrebnadzor, Russia's consumer rights and human welfare watchdog, said.
According to the specialist, the training included practical sessions on using protective clothing, including modern anti-plague suits,and ensuring laboratory safety protocols.

When discussing the promised delivery of mobile laboratories to Madagascar by year's end, Ivanova stressed that Russian experts provide comprehensive training, including for engineering specialists, when delivering such labs to partner countries.
"One of the areas of international cooperation of the Russian Federation is the transfer of accumulated experience by Russian specialists to their partners from countries near and far abroad," she said.
Over the years of cooperation, Russian experts have already trained more than 3,500 foreign partners, Ivanova concluded.
