Sub-Saharan Africa bears the heaviest burden of maternal and child mortality globally. Despite a significant global decline in maternal deaths, the region still accounts for a staggering 70% of these fatalities, with a rate of 545 deaths per 100,000 live births, according to the United Nations.
From November 3 to 16, doctors from African countries, including Zambia, Zimbabwe and Rwanda among others, are undergoing a 2-week intensive program in Moscow within the framework of the Russian initiative of sharing the expertise in maternal and infant health with international partners from friendly countries.
The team of Russian specialists from the National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after V. I. Kulakov conducts the training "Ways to Reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality," which focuses on practical skills and utilizes basic and high-tech simulation equipment to enhance professional competencies and improve the quality of medical care.
