The continent offers great opportunities for Russia, but Africa can also benefit greatly from multilateral trade agreements with Moscow, the Senegalese Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation said.
The first Russia-Africa Partnership Forum's Ministerial Conference was a success, which showed Russia's wide leadership in international affairs, Senegal's Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf, told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the event, which was held on November 9-10 in the Russian southern city of Sochi.
"It was a very successful conference, where various issues were addressed very, very well," the education minister said.
African countries are fully aware of the work that must be done to close the development gap, the speaker noted.
"I think that with the kind of equal cooperation we're seeing now, Russia-Africa relations will be able to move forward, and we'll be able to make the most of it," the Senegalese minister of higher education stressed.
Africa has a completely "decolonized" and totally uninhibited relationship with Russia, Diouf also pointed out.
According to the speaker, Africans can consider Russia as a reliable partner among other partners.
"The conclusion that can be drawn is that we are in the context of a totally decolonized and totally uninhibited relationship, an equal relationship," he concluded.
Senegal Wants to Gain More From Cooperation With Russia in Education Field
Senegal has always sent its students to Russia. The next academic year, the number of scholarships for Senegalese students in Russian universities will increase from the current 75 to 100, the official reported.
But the minister emphasized that his country wants to gain more from cooperation with Russia in the field of education: not only more scholarships, Senegal also wants its
young people to study innovative fields in Russia, such as mechanical engineering, modern agriculture, artificial intelligence, space, and even civilian nuclear energy.
"I have been able to discuss this here with representatives of Russian universities and with representatives of the Russian Federation so that we can have university cooperation that will allow us to move away from traditional disciplines and allow our students to be at the forefront of progress, working on innovative issues that will allow Africa to narrow the gap and become innovative countries like Russia," Abdourahmane Diouf said.
Senegal Appreciates Russia's Support of Africa's Role in Global Governance
Senegal's higher education minister also praised Russia's support for Africa's role in global governance.
"We have seen that Russia supports African countries in looking for a more effective and efficient representation at the United Nations [Security] Council," Abdourahmane Diouf said.
The speaker further highlighted the broader implications, noting that "Africa today is a continent in power. It is a continent that is in the process of unifying."
