As the 2024 U.S. presidential race enters its final stretch, Americans and observers abroad are asking: will it be Trump or Harris? Amidst the high tension, Sputnik Africa discusses the peculiarities of US politics with experts.
Early voting could create opportunities for fraud, François Asselineau, President of the Republican Popular Union, told Sputnik Africa.
"The longer the delay between voting and the announcement of results, he more it encourages fraud," he said.
He added that this is the reason France banned early voting about 30 years ago.
"We saw former President Obama calling on voters to vote early, which he himself did. Why is a political party intervening to encourage voters to vote early? I don't really understand the purpose, except that this party may have ulterior motives," the politician continued.
Asselineau contrasted this approach with Elon Musk's support for traditional in-person voting on election day.
He believes that suspicions of fraud could lead to disputes if the Democratic candidate wins:

"There is a very strong dynamic on the ground in favor of Donald Trump. If, by some chance, Kamala Harris is elected, it's very likely that tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, or even millions of Americans, will consider that it is false."

The politician didn't rule out the possibility of a civil war scenario, particularly considering the widespread gun ownership in the US.

He also warned that such a scenario would have devastating consequences for the global economy, potentially leading to a collapse of stock market prices, a suspension of trading on Wall Street, and a fall of the dollar.
