Terrorism remains a significant issue in Somalia, primarily due to the activities of the militant group al-Shabaab*. This group continues to pose a major threat, conducting various attacks, including suicide bombings, ambushes, and mortar attacks.
Unknown assailants fired mortar shells at Mogadishu's Halane neighborhood, a heavily fortified area of the Somali capital where the American and British embassies, the UN mission and the headquarters of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) are located, the Somali Guardian reported.
The consequences of the bombardment of the Halane neighborhood are not yet known. Photos circulating on social networks show significant damage.
In a communiqué on its official page in the social network X, ATMIS acknowledged the fact of the terrorist attack and condemned it, but did not give any details.

According to preliminary data, the attack was carried out by militants of the terrorist group al-Shabaab. However, the group has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
In recent months, al-Shabaab has carried out several high-casualty attacks, such as the dual assault near Lido Beach in Mogadishu, which resulted in at least 37 deaths and 247 injuries. The group also briefly overran three military bases in Jubaland state, killing at least five soldiers, before the attack was repelled by government forces.
